JoAnn N. Miller
JoAnn N. Miller, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the age of 86. She was born on March 11, 1938, in Ogden, Utah to Leon Oscar Nicholas and Margret Elizabeth Compton. She was the youngest of five children: Edwin, Emma, Leona, Kenneth, and Leon.
Her childhood was full of adventures in West Weber playing with her brother Leon, nephew Bobby exploring along the railroad tracks, hide and seek and teasing each other. Mom flourished in education, graduating from Weber High in 1956, and was awarded a full scholarship to Weber College where she graduated in 1958. She was an extremely strong woman, a hard worker, direct to the point and was devilishly quick-witted.
She put herself through college working at Safeway as a checker and then moving into her 40-year career in Supply Chain Management in the Aerospace industry: Marquardt Corporation, Boeing and retiring with Williams International.
She married her love Richard H. Miller on June 29, 1961, and from this union they had four children: Michael, Vikki, Scott, and Ric. Mom ran a tight ship, a small farm, shuttling us kids to our activities, and held down a full-time job.
In our eyes, mom was our “Hero.” She had many talents, she played the saxophone, softball and golf, crochet, embroidery and sewed. She was an avid reader, one of her favorite books was Gone with the Wind. Mom loved watching sports but LOVED them more when she watched her grandchildren play. She was the granny that would keep track of the stats or getting in trouble with the referee.
After retirement, dad and she wintered in Mesquite, Nevada that was referred to as the Little Villa. Here, she enjoyed meeting and making lifelong friends, golfing and taking trips in the Razor with dad, and friends, exploring the plateaus and mountain range.
Mom loved her family deeply, but most of all her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she had a strong testimony.
She leaves behind her children, Vikki Lee Miller, Scott H. Miller and Ric H. and Ricki Lynn Miller. She has six grandchildren: Michael H. Miller Jr, Kailey Lynn Miller, Nicholas Scott Miller, Abby Ann Miller, Richard Hayden Miller, and Ryan H. Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, husband, Richard, and son Michael.
The viewing will be held for family and friends on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Roy, Utah. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11:00 at the West Haven Cemetery.
Mom’s memory will be forever cherished by us as well as by the numerous friends and relatives she touched throughout her life.
