Allen “Butch” Warren Meyer, Jr.

Allen “Butch” Warren Meyer, Jr., passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on August 19, 1947, to Allen “Gus” and Anna Mae Meyer in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Allen grew up and lived in Lebanon until moving to Layton, Utah, at the age of 18.

Allen took great pride in his achievements as an Eagle Scout and his honorable service in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. While attending school in Salt Lake City, he met Susan LaVonne Hansen, whom he married on July 20, 1974. They were married for 50 years, raising four kids in their Layton home.

Throughout his life, Allen worked tirelessly to provide for his family. From his start after the Navy as a self-employed business owner, to superintendent for a large commercial construction company, he excelled at what he did, and his attention to detail was recognized and rewarded.

Allen’s hobbies included collecting coins and firearms. He would often inspect, sort, and roll loose change, looking for additions to his collection. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family, although his dedication and sacrifice to providing for his family did not allow him to go as often as he liked.

After retirement, Allen volunteered at the North Davis Senior Center, driving Meals on Wheels. He spent many hours at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), collecting donations and preparing cemetery crosses for Memorial Day. Allen contributed to Toys-for-Tots during Christmas and offered tools, equipment, and labor to those in need, without seeking recognition. He enjoyed watching westerns and action movies, gardening, and feeding treats to his pet rabbit, Stew.

Allen is survived by his wife, Susan LaVonne; his children, Lisa (Jeff) Bodily, Brandon Meyer, Boyd (Amanda Rae) Meyer, and Nathan (Amanda Jane) Meyer; his five grandchildren, Addison, Cambree, Evelyn, Owen, and Maisy; his sister, Jeanie (Dirk) Burningham; his aunts, JoAnn Vendetti and Joyce Imhoff; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his grandparents.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the ICU staff at Holy Cross Davis and McKay-Dee Hospital and to IHC Hospice for their compassion, care, and support during Allen’s final days.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 20, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Russon Mortuary, 1585 W. 300 S., Syracuse, Utah. Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Russon Mortuary, with additional visitation from 9:45 to 10:45 AM preceding the service. Interment will follow at Syracuse City Cemetery in Syracuse, Utah.
