Apr 4, 2025

August 3, 1943 — March 22, 2025

Karen Jean Arnold Wright passed away March 22, 2025, at 81, very peacefully at her home watching TV. Born August 3, 1943, Ogden, Utah, to Karma Judkins Arnold and Gene Gervase Arnold. She was raised in Pocatello, Idaho, then moved back to Ogden at 10 years old. She graduated from Ogden High in 1961 and attended Weber College. She received her pilots license at 22 years of age.

She married Joe Wright, and they enjoyed several years together until his passing. After his passing Karen chose not to remarry and have children.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

All of her adult life she worked for the Government. The job she loved the most was working for Cape Canaveral Space Center, in Florida. As a Lo-gis-ti-cian Specialist in Logistics. As a team member moving the Space Shuttle to the Launching Pad for flight into space. She was awarded The Silver Snoopy Award, the highest award given to a civilian from the US Air Force. She retired at 65 as a GS-13.

Karen was very smart, loved education, and was an avid reader. Was a creative and talented artist in painting, which was her greatest gift of many. She also helped create and was the first President of The Palette Club of Ogden. Involved in many types of art projects and adored Show and Tell.

Karen and her sister took singing lessons together and their favorite songs were “Sisters” and “Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel”, singing even if they were alone. Some people thought they were nuts, but oh well, you know who you are. She loved ceramics, singing, dancing, playing the organ and piano, planting cacti, golfing, fishing, snowmobiling, and swimming with dolphins in Hawaii.

When Karen and Dianna were very young, they went to bed listening to ballgames on the radio. They fell in love with those sports, and it gave them a lot in common to talk about the rest of their lives. Karen played team baseball in Boston. Her Uncle Frank Arnold was the Assistant Basketball Coach to Head Coach Wooden at UCLA. Frank later became the Head Basketball Coach at BYU and Head Basketball Coach at the University of Hawaii.

She was the most generous person we knew, if you wanted it, it was yours. She had a great sense of humor and everyone liked her. Her glass of water was never empty; always full. Karen knew from a very young age if you worked hard enough for something, it will be yours. Always gave us positive support, never left anyone hurting. She was a very trustworthy and understanding person that had plenty of ups and downs but was always willing to give advice or help others. She never lied or tattled on others or hurt anyone. Karen was a major light in our hearts.

We are so proud of her and what she had accomplished with the adversity she had in life. It was an honor to have Karen Arnold Wright in our lives. She was the Wright person at the Wright time for us….

Survived by her sister, Dianna Arnold (Kent) Housley; niece, Jeri Lynn Haws Brown; and step-niece, Tammy Housley Ibenski; cousins, Darrell and Michelle Muller, Linda Unander Spainhower; great-nephews, Micheal Brown, and Colby Housley; great-great-niece, Breanna; great-great-nephew, Corvo Brown; and three Unander stepsiblings.
