Lola Dean Hill Coombs

Sep 26, 2024

Lola Dean Hill Coombs, 93, of Fielding, Utah, peacefully departed this life on September 23, 2024.

She was born on October 11, 1930, at home in East Tremonton, Utah, the second daughter of Seymour William and Lydia Andrea Romer Hill. Lola grew up on the family farm, where she enjoyed helping her parents with various chores. One of her favorite activities was riding her horse into town for guitar lessons. She attended McKinley Elementary School and graduated from Bear River High School in 1948. In high school, she was a member of the Pep Club, marching in parades and at football and basketball games. She excelled academically and particularly enjoyed homemaking and sewing classes.

On October 20, 1949, Lola married her sweetheart and dancing partner, Keith Hales Coombs, in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. Together, they welcomed five daughters and one son. Their greatest joy was spending time together with their children and grandchildren. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Fielding and Garland during the winter and on the family ranch west of Plymouth during the summer, eventually settling permanently in Fielding.

Lola was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, endlessly supporting her family in every activity and endeavor. Her love, prayers and Christlike example will be a lasting blessing to her posterity. She dedicated her life to serving and working selflessly for those around her. She made sure everyone felt cared for, entertained and well-fed; always making each person feel like they truly mattered-which they did.

Sewing, quilting, handiwork, and cooking were among Lola’s many talents, which she flawlessly perfected and generously shared with others. She enjoyed watching sports, particularly BYU games, and always stayed informed on current local events and news.

A lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lola served faithfully and earnestly in many callings, including in the Relief Society, Primary, MIA, Sunday School and Scouting. She loyally attended the temple and cherished the time she spent there. Lola’s legacy of faith, love and service will live on eternally in the hearts of those who knew her.

Lola is survived by her six children: Susan (Gary) Wakley, Judy (Rick) Steed, Cindy Coombs, Lana Coombs, Kirk (Tina) Coombs and Joann (Matt) Allen; 20 grandchildren; many beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Bernard (LaPrele) Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her eternal companion, Keith; her three sisters: Shanna Hill, Roma Bourne and Beverly Estep; and brother, Blaine Hill.

Special thank you to the employees at Intermountain Hospice and Maple Springs for their loving care and service.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 30, at 12:00 noon, at the Fielding Stake Center (4375 West 15600 North, Garland, Utah). Family and friends may visit that same day from 10:00-11:30 am, prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Fielding Cemetery.

The funeral service will be livestreamed and can be found on Lola’s obituary page at www.ruddfuneralhome.com.
