Nancy Adams Hayes

Nancy Adams Hayes, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away on September 16, 2024. Born on August 31, 1942, to John and Dorothy Adams in Layton, Utah. Nancy was the middle child with four siblings. She and her siblings would cackle with such joy you couldn’t help but laugh along with them. As a farmer’s daughter, she learned the value of hard work and education early in life. Nancy married her college sweetheart, Tom Hayes on March 19th, 1964. Together, they had six children and embarked on countless adventures filled with laughter, exploration, love, and sometimes danger. Each journey richer than the last. Nancy’s spirit touched the lives of her children, grandchildren, siblings, students, and friends, both old and new. Her remarkable ability to embrace people from all walks of life allowed her to welcome everyone into her heart, embodying love and compassion throughout her life.

As a dedicated educator for 40 years, Nancy inspired numerous people with her desire to share the beauty she saw in the world. Her teaching was not merely a profession, it was a way of life that sparked curiosity and ignited a love of knowledge. An avid reader, Nancy shared her passion for this through storytelling and her delightful collection of puppets, creating a magical “Puppet Room” that brought joy to everyone who entered.

Nancy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served valiantly, including a mission in Vermont, where she taught others about Jesus Christ and provided selfless service to many. She held a deep belief in a loving Savior and the promise of eternal life. She is now reunited with her husband Tom and other family members who had passed before her.

A woman of many talents, Nancy earned her pilot’s license alongside Tom, allowing them to explore the world. She was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority at Utah State University, where she received her degree in education. Nancy was a member of the Utah Retired School Employee Association, serving in many board and leadership positions. She enjoyed connecting with her heritage through ancestry research and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Nancy had a deep appreciation for the arts. She loved to sing and dance, delighting in plays, musicals, and ballets. Her laughter could light up a room. Her joyful demeanor created cherished memories with all.

Over the years, Nancy lived in Layton, Uintah, Mountain Green, and called South Weber home for the last seventeen years. Her kindness was a hallmark of her character. She always thought of others and her generosity extended beyond her family. She had a knack for making everyone feel special and cared for and saw the beauty in everything with her immense capacity for love.

Nancy is survived by her children:

Holly (Darnell) Fernelius and their children Clint, Samantha, Ryan, and Sabrina

Scott (Amy) Hayes and their children Skyler, Zachary, and Ashley

Brent (Sandy) Hayes and their children Hunter, Hayley, Tommie, and Kade

Christy (Conway) Coleman and their children Adam, Nick, and Alex

Kelly (Ryan) Boswell and their children Thomas Dean, Hayes, Harris, and Henry

Cindy (Spencer) Price and their children Paige and Brady

She adored each of her children, twenty grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren with three more on the way. She leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her siblings: MaryAnn (the late Jim) Bundy, Mike (Shelly) Adams, Jan (Ned) Nelson, and Juile Terry (Aharon) Shumlinson.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all who enriched Nancy’s life and supported her in her final years of life, including friends, neighbors, and home health care providers.

Nancy’s smile, sparkling eyes, and infectious laughter will be profoundly missed. We love you Nancy, and all that you stood for. Until we meet again.

Services

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary 1867 No. Fairfield Road Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
