Rufus B. Barlin

Rufus B. Barlin returned home on Monday, September 9, 2024 after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Sicily Island, Louisiana to the late Richard Barlin, Sr. and Ella (Starks) Barlin and was the oldest sibling of Ellen, Richard and Samuel.

After moving to Utah at a young age, he was reared and educated in Davis and Weber County Schools, graduating from Ogden High School in 1953. Rufus was a great softball player along with playing basketball and football. He was inducted into the Utah Softball Hall of Fame, a great accomplishment. He attended Weber State University playing football. After leaving WSU, he enlisted in the US Army, and he was a proud veteran.

Rufus married his loving wife Dorothy Hall in Ogden, Utah in 1958. Together, they raised their grandsons, Trevor and Ryan Weakly who they adored endearingly. He was also a very special uncle in the lives of his nephews and nieces, Darrell, Joey, Shaun, JoJo, Niki and Jolicia.

His professional career was at the Mountain Bell Phone Company and Clearfield Job Corps Center. He confessed his faith early in life and was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church – Ogden.

Rufus leaves to cherish his memories, his stepson William Weakly, Ogden, UT; sister Ellen Head, Ogden, UT; brother Richard (Beverly) Barlin, Riverside, CA; sister-in-law Charlean Wilson, Roy, UT; grandsons Trevor and Ryan Weakly; and a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Rufus was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, and brother Samuel Barlin.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary; 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah 84404, with a viewing prior to the funeral from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. Interment will be at Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. The service will be live streamed and can be watched by going to Rufus’ obituary page at www.myers-mortuary.com and clicking on the following link https://MyersMortuary.livecontrol.tv/917f1766
