William Duersch

Sep 4, 2024

William (Willie) Duersch passed away at his home on September 3, 2024.

He was born in Logan, Utah to Fred, Sr. and Anna Duersch. He attended Logan High School and Utah State University. He was married to Vicki Duersch and together they had two daughters.

Willie managed Treasure Valley Bumper in Boise, Idaho for 20 years before retiring in Roy, Utah.

He played football at Utah State and made countless friends during his time there. A lifelong Aggie, he was a fixture at football tailgates and nearly every Utah State home football game. In 2011, he was inducted into the Utah State University Alumni Hall of Honor.

Willie enjoyed golfing, working out/chatting with friends at the gym, smoking a fine cigar, and sipping on a glass of single malt scotch. He was known to ask everyone he encountered (nurses, doctors, bank employees, etc.) for a cold beer because he thought it was funny. He also loved music, especially the Highwaymen. We will always remember being sung to sleep by his renditions of “House of the Rising Sun” and “City of New Orleans.”

His rosy cheeks, kind eyes, and round belly made him an ideal stand-in for Santa Claus, so he celebrated the holiday season in his Santa costume with numerous families, business clients, and charity organizations for many years.

He is survived by his children Erika (Jack) Fontana, and Emily (Aaron) Aplin; his grandson Oliver; his siblings Fred (Gerry) Duersch Jr, Wilford (Karen) Duersch, and George (Merl) Duersch; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his two cats Rusty and Sierra. He was preceded in death by his wife Vicki, his parents, his siblings Edith Duersch Despain and John Duersch, and his granddaughter Eleanor Aplin.

No funeral service is currently planned, but those who wish to celebrate Willie’s memory (and we know there are many of you) should have a glass of scotch, enjoy a round of golf, eat some blue cheese, or just ask the next random person they encounter for a cold beer.
