Dawn Cutler

1949 — 2024
Dawn Francom Cutler, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, quietly passed away on the morning of August 26, 2024 in North Ogden, Utah. Dawn was born in Logan, Utah on October 12, 1949 as the youngest of Virgil Francom and Virginia Stoler Francom’s four daughters.
While growing up on the family farm in Tremonton, Dawn’s mother passed away from cancer when Dawn was ten years old. Two years later her father married Mildred Lindsey, adding her and Mildred’s three daughters from a previous marriage to the Francom family. Dawn graduated from Bear River High School in 1967. She then attended Brigham Young University. While at BYU, Dawn met Robert Gilmore, who invited her to go shooting with him on their first date. Dawn was always proud of the fact that she shot better than Bob did on that occasion. They married on June 4, 1971. With the Vietnam War underway, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, and Dawn moved with him first to Charleston, South Carolina; then to Whidbey Island, Washington; before making their home in Ogden. They had three children together, Ginny, Rob, and Ben, before they separated in 1991.
Following the divorce, Dawn continued her education, completing a BA degree in social work from Weber State University in 1995 and working at Enable Industries. During that time, she met Bruce Cutler, who was also divorced with children, and they married on January 22, 1994, combining his six children with her three. Bruce passed away from cancer on May 5, 2004. In the years that followed, Dawn resigned from her position at Enable and became a counselor for students at Western Governor’s University, before retiring in 2014 to focus her attention on Church-related service.
Dawn was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a number of roles over the years, including ward chorister, Young Women’s president, and–at both the ward and stake level–Relief Society president. She first made Bruce’s acquaintance when he began attending the same ward where she served as chorister; they would exchange Meaningful Glances with each other while she sat on the rostrum and looked down at him in the congregation.
Dawn is survived by her children: Ginny (Eric) Buhler, Rob (Katie), and Ben (Bridgette) Gilmore; stepchildren Shaun (Susie) Cutler, Kim (Marc) Rees, Angie (Aaron) Kennedy, Lori (Kyle) Browne, and Heather (Marty) Harris; sisters Vicki Pierson, Wendy (Jerry) Houck, Tam Francom; stepsisters Sunny Payne and Jan Woolley; brother-in-law Arlan Woodward; and 23 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce; her parents; her stepsister Sal Woodward; stepson Russell Cutler; and brothers-in-law Craig Woolley and Dal Pierson.
Funeral service will be Friday, September 6, 2024, 11am, with viewings Thursday, September 5, 2024, 6-8pm and prior to services at 10am, North Ogden 5th Ward, 626 E. 2600 N., North Ogden, Utah 84414. Interment will be at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 E. 2850 N., North Ogden, Utah.
Services entrusted to Myers Ogden Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com.
