Vickie McFarland

Oct 24, 2024

Mom slipped away peacefully at home on October 19, 2024 with Dad at her side.

Mom was born February 6, 1952, to Lyle and Shirley Worthington in Twin Falls, Idaho. She grew up in North Ogden along with her sisters: Kathy (Hal) Garlick, Sharon Stevenson, Connie (Harold) Tyler, and Patty (Robert) Donaldson.

She graduated from Weber High School in 1970, where she met Dad (Randy McFarland). They were married in 1974. After spending a few years in Idaho Falls, they moved to Plain City, Utah to raise their three kids: Ryan (Christy Jo), Megan, and Chelsea (Derek) Johnson.

While raising us, Mom went to work at Plain City Elementary as a proud and beloved “lunch-lady”. She later went to work at Autoliv, where she retired in 2017. Mom enjoyed these jobs – but her favorite part was always the people she met along the way. We heard so many funny and sweet stories of her favorite school kids and work friends. All of them had a great impact on her.

Her grandkids were the highlight of Mom’s life! Spending time with them was truly her favorite thing to do. She always looked forward to attending Corbin and Declan’s soccer and hockey games, or hearing about Skye and Wynter’s latest adventures. She loved her grandkids dearly and they were constantly on her mind.

Mom spent the last 19 months fiercely battling cancer. Unfortunately, her illness won the fight and cut her grandma years short. Throughout the process, Dad was there to get her to appointments, hold her hand, and do all he could to keep her comfortable. We are so grateful to Dr. Cassel and all the staff at Intermountain Cancer Center and IHC Home Health & Hospice for their professionalism and compassion during this final phase of Mom’s journey. We are also very appreciative to Mom and Dad’s wonderful neighbors who have been there to lend a hand or to just drop by and say hello.

Throughout Mom’s life there have been many people who were very important to her, who she loved without hesitation or judgment. Chances are that as you read this, you know who you are. We are grateful for the joy that you have brought her and thank you for being with her to the end.

Mom did not want a funeral, and we are honoring that wish. In her spirit, please smile and say hi to a stranger, or slip a couple dollars to someone who is down on their luck. She would also be comforted if you would take your loved ones for a scoop of ice cream to let her memory live on.

Arrangements entrusted to Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT.
