Russell Tal Ashment

Oct 18, 2024

May 22, 1936 – October 15, 2024

With a heart full of respect and admiration, we celebrate the well-lived life of Russell Tal Ashment, who was born on May 22, 1936, in Ogden, UT, and passed away on October 15, 2024. Russell was a man of many talents and interests. He was a mechanic by trade, a hobbyist at heart, and a friend to all. He was a man who could effortlessly strike up a conversation with anyone, and leave them with a smile.

Russell attended Weber State University and served diligently at Hill Air Force Base as a Sheet Metal Mechanic. He was a past president of the North Ogden Kiwanis Club. Russell had a knack for fixing things, a trait that transcended his occupation and seeped into his everyday life. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force.

He married his beloved wife, Lena Karen Cutler, on April 20, 1963, in Elko, Nevada. Their union was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1991.

He loved attending car shows, listening to oldies music, skiing both on snow and water, and going camping with his family. His frugality was legendary, and he was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for newspapers, Consumer Reports, Reader’s Digest, and Forbes Magazine.

Russell was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served in Sunday School, Elders Quorum, and Library services. He also served a mission with his beloved wife, Lena, at the Ogden Employment Center, and was an Ogden Temple Worker.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at George E. Whalen Veterans Home for their exceptional care of Russell.

The memories we hold of Russell are treasures to cherish. Let us honor and remember Russell for who he was a loving husband and father, a devoted servant, a skilled mechanic, and a friend to all.

Russell is survived by his children: Michael Ashment (Terri), Jolene Paul (Andrew), and Bryan Ashment. He is also survived by his sister, Rosita Whitaker, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Russell Ashment and Exta Juanita Reynolds Preston; wife Lena Karen Ashment and sister Marellen Exta Ashment.
