Linda Hoffman (Shaw)

Oct 18, 2024

Linda Hoffman (Shaw), 86, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in her home with family by her side in Ogden, Utah, on October 17, 2024. Born on June 7, 1938, in Ogden, Linda was the daughter of Ernest Leroy Shaw and Mildred Cleo Robins. From an early age, Linda’s spirited nature and zest for life were evident to all who knew her.

A proud graduate of Ben Lomond High School in 1956, Linda was a Lady Scott, a cheerleader, and a talented member of the marching band. Her love for the water was expressed through her time as a synchronized swimmer and lifeguard at Lorin Farr Swimming Pool, where she met the love of her life, Butch Hoffman. The couple married on February 12, 1960, embarking on a lifelong journey together. Butch preceded her in death on January 27, 2021, leaving behind a legacy of love and partnership that Linda cherished deeply.

Linda furthered her education at Weber State College and Utah State University, demonstrating her commitment to learning and self-improvement. She began her professional career at the Standard Examiner in the 1950s before moving on to a successful role in real estate loans at Commercial Security Bank in the 1960s. Linda’s career path was a testament to her belief that women could balance professional aspirations with family responsibilities.

Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly alongside Butch when they took a run-down laundry business on Washington Boulevard and transformed it into Hoffman Cleaners. This venture became an enduring staple in the Ogden business community for over 60 years before they sold it in 2019. Their hard work and dedication to the business left a lasting impact on the community.

Her father, the esteemed chief of police in Ogden, undoubtedly inspired Linda’s dedication and service to her community, a legacy she carried forward with pride. Linda and Butch were active members of the Pineview Yacht Club and the Ogden Golf and Country Club, where they shared many joyful moments with friends and family.

Linda’s passions were as diverse as they were vibrant. She was an avid skier, golfer, boater, and fisherwoman, always eager to embrace adventure. Her love of gambling brought excitement to her life, while shopping allowed her to express her unique style and generosity. Linda also contributed her time and talents volunteering for ski racing assignments, helping organize and support the sport she and her family loved.

Above all, Linda was a devoted mother and matriarch, survived by her three cherished children, Scott (Julie Denkers-Bishop), Heidi (Gord) Perry, and Kathy McRae. Her legacy of love continues through her seven grandchildren, Haley and Jesse Hoffman, Ciera and Hunter Perry, Christa, Courtney, and Todd McRae, and four great-grandchildren, Paisley, Bodie, Sawyer, and Willa Rose.

Her family fondly recalls her driving them to countless activities in her blue station wagon, sporting her signature Velcro rollers, furry slippers, and pink terry cloth robe. Her warmth, kindness, and boundless energy left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

The family is grateful to Intermountain Homecare & Hospice for helping Linda pass with peace, dignity, and comfort. Linda’s legacy is one of love, laughter, generosity and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and strive to honor the values she instilled in them. As we bid farewell to Linda, we celebrate a life richly lived and a spirit that will continue to guide us as our true north.
