Jason David Kendall

Oct 18, 2024

Jason David Kendall (55) passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after 20 months doing his very best to keep brain cancer at bay. Jason was born September 20, 1969, in Ogden, Utah, to Dirk S. Kendall and Dorothy Kay Field Kendall. His birth interrupted his parents wedding anniversary, making him the best anniversary gift they could ask for! He joined 3 older siblings – Michelle, Jan, and Darin. He was the baby for 11 years, until he was booted from his spot by his sister, Robynn. Jason grew up in Sunset, Utah, attended Sunset Elementary, Sunset Jr. High, and Clearfield High School. In High School he participated in the drama and band departments. He had a great singing voice and played the saxophone. Jason was in many musicals and his great sense of humor followed him through all his performances. His current family home is in Sunset, right around the corner from Mom and Dad.

Jason also participated in ROTC all through high school, which led him to join the Marine Corps at age 17. Four days after high school graduation, he was on a plane to bootcamp. He was the youngest Marine in his unit. This would be the beginning of many years of military service in the Marine Corps and the Army National Guard. Jason loved his country and was proud to stand for and defend the freedoms we all enjoy. Some of his service included deployments to Japan in support of Operation Desert Storm and to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was much loved by those with whom he served and was known as one who could make people feel safe and comfortable. He was dependable and honest. He was loyal and a trusted friend and comrade.

Jason was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a faithful mission to Belgium and France and really enjoyed his time there and the opportunity to teach people about the Savior. He was a man of great faith and an example to many throughout his life.

Jason married Keli Suzanne Timbrel on March 2, 1994 in Harrisville, Utah. They welcomed 5 children – Hudson, Miles, Quinnton, Azia-Jae, and Maximillian. Also known as the Q-men and The Little Lady. Jason loved being a father! Everything he did was for the purpose of supporting them and making their lives better. He loved spending time with them. He became a first-time Granddad (he was quick to correct anyone who called him Grandpa!) when his son, Miles, and daughter-in-law, Taya, welcomed their first child just 11 days before his passing. “Love you, kiddos.”

Jason was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed reading about military and world history, archeology, and the scriptures. He had a wonderful memory for facts and dates and could speak on many subjects from memory. He attended Weber State College, working hard for many years around all of life’s ups and downs, and obtained his much-deserved Bachelor’s degree in Archeology. Over the past decade and a half he owned and operated his own firearms and ammunition sales company. He even involved his family in the company by incorporating lessons into his business practice. All his children helped work in the garage, sorting bullets and learning work ethic alongside their dad.

Jason loved cars, going for drives, the Chicago Cubs, collecting and selling baseball cards (at one time, he opened a small baseball card and comic book shop at a local shopping mall), music of all kinds, singing and playing with the band at the music school he attended, and watching movies. Gold panning and scuba diving were also passions of his. In recent years he created a YouTube channel to share his love of sports cards (especially baseball) to other people who shared his interest. He had a page where fans of his channel could subscribe to a monthly, handpicked card collection. Jason really enjoyed the aspect of giving back to the people who supported him and the personalized cards were his way of doing that. Through all of his personal hobbies, he also always loved attending and supporting his children in their hobbies and activities. He loved cheese, black licorice and black jelly beans, Milky Way candy bars, and pickles. And of course, ranch dressing and fry sauce – by the gallons.

There aren’t enough words to describe all that Jason was and how very much he is missed. He was so humble and generous to everyone around him. We miss his love and kindness, his humor, his laughter, and his smile. He will be missed by those who survive him – his parents Dirk and Kay Kendall, his siblings Michelle (Greg) Holt, Jan (David) Koontz, Darin (Cathy) Kendall, Robynn (Mike) Stoddard, his wife Keli Kendall, his children Hudson Q. Kendall, Miles Q. (Taya) Kendall, Quinnton Q. Kendall, Azia-Jae Kendall, Maximillian Q. Kendall, his grandson, Hayze Kendall, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at the Sunset 3rd Ward, 338 West 1800 North, Sunset. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy.

Interment at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday October 23, 2024, Oxford Cemetery, 8585 N. Westside Hwy, Clifton, Idaho.

During Jason’s months-long cancer journey there were so many people who helped him. A few that stand out are the medical professionals and staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute, as well as the staff at the George E. Whalen Ogden Veterans Home. Their attentiveness and genuine love for Jason was much appreciated and didn’t go unnoticed.
