Brent Elmer Johns

Oct 18, 2024

Brent Elmer Johns, 75, passed away on October 16, 2024 surrounded by his children and wife. Brent was born September 6, 1949 in Ogden, Utah to Norma Elizabeth (Weenig) and Elmer Wade Johns.

Brent graduated from Ogden High, Weber State College (where he was a student body officer) and BYU Law School. He ran his own law firm for more than 30 years, did pro bono work for YCC, and was a Deputy Weber County Attorney for four years.

Brent and Becky Sparkman married in the Salt Lake Temple on Nov. 21, 1975. Through 49 years of marriage, they always chose each other. He had an enduring faith in his Heavenly Father and held many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but cherished most the opportunity to connect with his neighbors through being a home-teacher.

As Brent would say, “Let’s get this over with.” Brent enjoyed historical books, tending to his aquariums, and was an avid coin collector. He liked college football, was a Major League Baseball fan, and was an eternal pessimist for his teams. He loved art, the Cedar City Shakespearean Festival, plays, and opera. He was involved in scouting with his two boys and enjoyed telling a scary story or singing silly songs by the fire. He liked board games (only if he won) and loved Jeopardy.

Our father was loved by many and bothered by most. He always had a witty retort and a poke and prod with a sardonic smile. Underneath that all, he had a well-meaning, tender heart. If you were picked on by Brent, you knew he truly loved you. His love for his children has been a comfort. especially in recent years. We will miss him dearly for all of his snarky and loving moments including but not limited to: singing loudly in church, eating grasshoppers to scare us, relentless teasing to hide his teddy bear side, Donald Duck impressions, and wild Memorial Day water fights.

Brent is survived by his wife Becky and children: Christiaan Brent Johns (Allyson), Benjamin Wolf Johns (Aimee), and Charity Beth Farnworth (Brian), five grandchildren, his sisters ShaRon James (Richard) and Kathleen Morgan (Dave) and brother Bruce Johns (Ann). He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Johns.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the Harrisville 7th Ward, 1560 No. 200 West, Harrisville, Utah 84404. A viewing will be held at the church on Tuesday, October 22nd from 6 to 8 p.m. and prior to the service on Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m.
