Marie B. Cavanaugh, co-founder of MRS. CAVANAUGH’S CHOCOLATES, passed away at the age of 92, on October 11, 2024, after a struggle with dementia.

Anna Marie Bastian was born on January 4, 1932, in West Jordan, Utah to George Antone Bastian and Carrie Roean Myers Bastian. She was their fifth child and second daughter. She had five brothers. Marie is the last of her immediate family.

Marie went to school and graduated in Green River, UT. She later graduated from LDS Business College and worked at Geneva Steele. She met George L. Cavanaugh at a dance while at BYU and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on February 17, 1961.

George and Marie moved to South Dakota where they raised their 5 children: Carla (Billy -deceased), Spencer, Lorraine (Brian) Tennant, Calvin Cavanaugh, Colene (Michael) Wall, and Genise (Grag) Martin.

In 1972, the family left the farm and moved to Bountiful, UT, where they resumed their candy business, known as MRS. CAVANAUGH’S CHOCOLATES.

George passed away on May 12, 2013, at the age of 86.

She is survived by her five children, 24 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren,

Marie was a remarkable woman with many talents. She was so generous to all. She had vision and with George by her side, they made a difference in this world. Marie loved the Savior and would share her testimony at any time and place. She and George respected the founding fathers and wore out their lives in upholding the Constitution and warning of its demise.

Goodbye to our sweet and spunky mother. It’s been a blessing and a privilege to call you “Mom”. If there is dancing in Heaven, George and Marie are on the dance floor.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 12:30-1:30 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Burial at Lakeview Cemetery.
