Patricia Marlene Jones Butler
LAYTON-Patricia Marlene Jones Butler, 90, passed away of natural causes Thursday, November 7, 2024 in the presence of her loving family. She was born January 1, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Milton Eugene Jones and Marian Lurelle Hand. She married Joseph LeRoy Butler, Jr. in the Salt Lake City Temple April 21, 1961. He died February 16, 2017.
Patricia grew up in Virginia and returned to Utah, graduating from Jordan High School and then BYU. She served a mission to France and French-speaking Geneva, Switzerland for The Church of Jesus Christ of Lattery Day Saints. She taught English at Evergreen Junior High until starting a family. Her children were blessed with a stay-at-home mom for the remainder of her years.
She had a zest for life that profoundly manifested itself after a spiritual awakening to God’s grace through Jesus Christ, her personal savior. She loved the cultural arts, sports, and politics. She danced with Orchesis Dance Company at BYU, was an accomplished singer, an avid tennis player, and a lobbyist for “Families Alert”, advocating for legislation supporting traditional family values.
Patricia’s joyful nature was evident in her every warm-hearted greeting. She will be sorely missed. Funeral services were held at Lindquist Mortuary November 9, 2024: interment in the Kaysville Cemetery. Funeral services and her life sketch are available online.
She is survived by her children, Michal Anne Bouwhuis (Chet); Miriam Carter; Warren LeRoy Butler (Cheryl); LuAnn Naomi Purnell (John); Carol Lurelle Butler (James Guilkey); Thomas Joseph Butler (Michelle); By her sibling Ronald Taylor Jones (Patricia); and half-siblings Mont Margetts (Peggy); Gwendolyn (“Wendy”) Anderson; Karen Winterbottom (David Cruden); Sandy Jones; Her 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by Milton Eugene Jones (father); Marian Lurelle Hand Jones Margetts Godfrey (mother); Joseph LeRoy Butler, Jr. (husband), Milton Eugene Jones, Jr. (brother); Calvin Carter (son-in-law).
