Paul Allen Burnett

Nov 22, 2024

It is with sorrow that we announce the loss of Paul Allen Burnett of Layton, Utah, who left us at the age of 78 on November 13, 2024. He is survived by his wonderful wife Penny Burnett (née Payne), his son Guy Burnett of Washington, D.C., and his daughter-in-law Brianna Burnett (née Moore). He is also survived by his two step-grandchildren, Patrick and Lillie Fisher, who he loved very much and celebrated often. He is also being reunited with his son, Brett Burnett, who passed away in 2012.

We will miss Paul, but we also remember and rejoice in his triumphant life here in mortality. He achieved all the goals he set for himself in this life, including becoming an engineer for General Motors in the 1970s-2000s – something he wanted to do since his childhood fascination with automobiles.

Paul lived and traveled all over the United States from coast to coast many times, and he always found joy in the unique culture found throughout the nation. Until his old age, he was vigorous in his pursuit of cars, travel, and humor. Paul could always be counted on for a good laugh as well as an unfiltered opinion (usually on the Dallas Cowboys).

A true baby boomer, Paul was born in Ogden, Utah, in 1946, and was the child of George and June Burnett. His formative years were spent in Clearfield, Utah, where he attended Clearfield High School, excelling in auto shop, history, math, and football. It was at CHS that he developed his enduring love for football, preferring to tackle instead of being tackled, as a linebacker.

After high school, he attended Weber State College where he majored in Automotive Engineering and was a linebacker on the football team. He was also a proud member of the Delta Phi Kappa fraternity on campus. He served and always fondly remembered his mission in the Sydney Australia Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he stayed a strong and stalwart member of the faith for the rest of his life. He had a profound understanding of faith and the church and lived by the maxim found in Joshua 24:15 (his favorite scripture).

Paul met his beloved wife Penny while at Weber State College, and the two were married on August 15, 1971. They weathered life’s storms together and continued to love on another through thick and thin and were the example of a happy and devoted marriage.

His life was one filled with joy, adventure, faith, and love. Although we are now separated from him, we know we will see him again and enjoy his wit, wisdom, and love for all eternity.

A viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary in Layton (250 N. Fairfield Drive, Layton, UT, 84041) on November 26 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Cherry Lane Building in Layton (2680 E Cherry Ln, Layton, UT 84040) on November 27 at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow interment at Clearfield City Cemetery.
