Nov 19, 2024

July 24, 1921 — November 16, 2024

With completely broken, yet thankful hearts, the family of Helen Yamasaki announce her passing.

Helen Fumie Tanaka Yamasaki passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 24, 1921, in Tremonton, Utah to Japanese immigrant parents, Bunemon and Isono (Inouye) Tanaka. She was the fifth of ten children raised on the family farm.

She attended McKinley Elementary School and graduated from Bear River High School.

On May 2, 1946, she married a handsome athlete, Yosh Yamasaki, from rival school, Box Elder High.

Together with their four children: Lindy, Randy, Bonnie, and Sidney, they farmed and raised cattle in West Corinne.

After her children were grown, she went to work for Maddox Ranch House for 14 years. She made lifelong friends during her tenure there.

Helen loved to crochet, sew, bunka, cook, make candy and even learned how to paint by watching Bob Ross. She won numerous awards at the Box Elder County Fair for her bunka pictures. Her favorite part of the fair was visiting with family and friends and listening to Rough Stock on Saturday night.

She was a huge Utah Jazz fan as well as any team her grandkids played for. She loved going fishing and camping with her family.

Helen is survived by her son Randy (Sandra) Yamasaki, North Ogden; daughter Bonnie (Larry) Shires, Tremonton; grandchildren: Deny (Lyra) Yamasaki, Greg Yamasaki, Brad (Monica) Yamasaki, Becky Yamasaki (Stephen Roberts), Alisha (Jeremy) Barber, Crystal Yamasaki (Matt Olsen) Shauni (Dave) Hiland, and Sheree Pollard.

She is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Yosh; her sons: Lindy and Sid; grandchildren: Brent Yamasaki and Dayna Stark; great-grandson: Nathan Yamasaki; and two brothers and five sisters.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Our House, especially Alexia, Kelly, Atlas Hospice nurse Savana and “The Wild Bunch” who she ate her meals with.
