It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Denny Furtado (77) on June 24, 2024. Denny had been on Hospice due to heart failure, and was able to live his last months at home in Riverdale, UT, where he also passed.

Denny Furtado was born on August 17, 1946 in Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii. At the age of 17, Denny enlisted in the Marine Corps where he attained the rank of sergeant and earned the Good Conduct Medal 1st Award and National Defense Service Medal. As part of his duties, Denny served one year in Vietnam and three years at various embassies around the world. He spent his post-military career as a Customer Service Representative at the IRS and as a distribution logics manager. Denny was an avid reader, especially historical, military, and Western books, and the local paper. He always carried crossword puzzles with him. He is survived by Mareli Furtado (wife) of Riverdale, UT, Troy Furtado (son) of Beatrice, NE, Jason Furtado (son) and family of Crete, NE, Angela Furtado-Rasmussen (daughter) of Tokyo, Japan, Sara Furtado-Milke (daughter) and family of Sterling, NE, Sonny (brother) and Betty Cabrera and family of Layton, UT, Irene Laborte (sister) and family of Maui, Hawaii, Laurinda Makahanaloa (sister) and family of McLeansboro, IL, Mario Cabrera (brother) and family of Maui, Hawaii, Donato Cabrera (brother) and family of Maui, Hawaii, Jason Cabrera (brother) and family of Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by Sloan Furtado (son), Violet Furtado Cabrera (mother), Leslie Furtado (brother), Doroteo Anac (father), Ivan Cabrera (brother), and Florentino Cabrera Sr. (step-father).

Denny will be cremated and preserved in a match box per his wishes. A private family memorial will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers or monetary contributions to the family, please consider a donation to the Humane Society to support Denny’s belief in taking care of unwanted animals.
