Thomas Edward Curtis, the only child of Thomas Franklyn Curtis and Gurtha Mae Singleton was born on December 21, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Tom graduated from South High School, where he excelled in football, basketball and track. His athletic prowess continued at the University of Utah, where he played football, basketball and high jumped on the university track team.

Before graduating from the U, he took a two and a half year break to serve as a missionary in Argentina for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Soon after his return home he married his sweetheart Susan Smith.

Together, Tom and Sue are the parents of three children: Kyle (Barbara), Geri Kelley (Chad), Kevin (Amy), seven grandchildren, their spouses, and 23 great-grandchildren.

Tom’s career spanned 40 years working for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He began as the manager of the Ogden Deseret Gymnasium and later held several positions at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City. His years in Ogden were especially cherished, filled with lifelong friends and treasured memories.

In addition to his church employment, Tom served in many callings in the LDS Church, including as a Bishop.

Tom loved horses, beach trips with his family, outlet shopping with Sue, hiking, skiing, playing squash, anything Argentina and attending athletic events of both his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, his heart was filled with a profound love for his Savior Jesus Christ, a passion that guided his every step.

On Wednesday June 12, 2024, at the age of 89, Tom peacefully passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah. Leaving behind an example of love, service and dedication which will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Murray 1st Ward, 755 East Three Fountains Drive, Murray, Utah 84107. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening, June 19, 2024, from 6-8 PM at the same location as well as Thursday morning 1 hour prior to services. Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
