David George Holt

Jun 11, 2024

1937 – 2024

Dave was the 2nd of 4 boys born to Corom Beckstead Holt and Melva Louise Hedden, in Salt Lake City on December 14, 1937. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 8, 2024. Dave’s siblings include Richard Holt (deceased), James Lamar Holt (deceased) and Lynn Holt.

He married Karla Jones, in the Salt Lake Temple, on May 9, 1958 and together they raised four children: Lynda (Charlie) Wingo, Susan (Dan) Nelson, Janet (Clint) Tingey, and Deron (Shawna) Holt. Karla passed away July 28, 2015.

Dave’s family moved to Ogden in 1948, where they remained until his senior year in High School, when they moved back to Salt Lake. He graduated from Olympus High. He met Karla, his senior year, on a blind date. They went to a school basketball game, Ogden vs Ben Lomond. David attended Ogden High while Karla attended Ben Lomond, so a natural rivalry and a special relationship developed.

Dave began his working life right after High School at a Copper Mine near Ruth, Nevada. Then he spent 2 years working for the Army National guard. Finally hired by Hill AFB, he began his federal career that lasted 30 years. He retired on December 1, 1990. Upon retirement, he embarked on what he called his “favorite job,” driving a school bus for special education students in Davis County.

When Karla retired, they moved North to West Yellowstone, Montana where they enjoyed Yellowstone National Park (YNP) and all the fun the area offered them. They hiked, rode their bicycles, and viewed wildlife as often as possible. Each summer they hosted their grandchildren, boys one week and girls the next. Their grandchildren still cherish the memories from those summers. Dave found a part-time job to stay busy, delivering ice. He regularly drove from Island Park, Idaho to each visitor station in YNP. The pair also became “snowbirds,” spending summers in West Yellowstone and winters in Quartzite, Arizona in their motorhome.

Dave enjoyed trying new things, meeting new people, and was known for his playful tricks and friendly demeanor. His hobbies included snowmobiling, boating, riding horses, and motorcycles. His favorite pastime was traveling. He enjoyed camping with family and friends and road trips in the truck and camper. David and Karla traveled the Alaskan Highway 3 separate times. Karla’s sister and brother-in-law lived there, which gave them a good excuse to keep going back.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as his brother Lynn (Frankie), sisters-in-law Cheryl Holt, Maureen (Glen) Davies, and brothers-in-law Randy (Donna) Jones and Wells Stephensen, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Karla, brothers Richard and James Lamar, sisters -in-law Lennis Stephensen and Deanna Holt, parents, in-laws, and infant grandson Elliott Jolley.

Dave’s final wishes include a viewing to be held from 10:30 – 11:30 am on Monday June 17, 2024, at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, followed by a graveside service at Noon at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd.
