Robert “Bob” W. Hill

Jul 13, 2024

Robert "Bob" W. Hill, age 87, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away June 21, 2024 in Charleston, SC thus bringing to end an honorable and generous life.

Bob was born on December 26, 1936 in his mother's childhood home in Fayette, Utah to Lola May (Olsen) and Wendell Bown Hill. From his humble beginnings in a small farming town, Bob developed his strong work ethic and came to value the importance of family and friends.

Bob was educated in the public school system and pursued his undergraduate degree at Southern Utah State College on an athletic scholarship in basketball and track. It was during that time that he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Carmen Anderson, and began a long marriage focused on love, family and friendship with time for adventure, travel and broader exploration.

Bob went on to obtain a Masters of Business degree from the University of Utah.

After employment opportunities in Idaho Falls, ID and Richland, WA Bob eventually returned to Utah where he experienced a long career as a contract negotiator for Thiokol on NASA's space shuttle program - a professional achievement he was immensely proud of.

Bob's later years were spent living near his daughter, Shirleen, and son, Mark, in the Seattle, WA area and then more recently with his son, Scott, in Charleston, SC.

Bob's true legacy is in the way he approached his daily life. Bob lived by simple yet powerful beliefs: - work hard, keep family close, commit to the friendships you have established - and don't let anyone beat you at cards!

We will greatly miss our BIG-hearted, pie-loving, card-playing Utah cowboy, and know that his memory will live on in all who had the great fortune to know and love him.

Bob is survived by his children, - Shirleen (Craig), Scott (Christy), and Mark (Maura); his grandchildren - Ashley (Jake), Nicole (Anthony), Lauren (Ryan), Kelsey, Courtney (Brian), Lindsay (Clay), Tyler, Meg, and Ella; his great-grandchildren, - Addison, Kennedy, River, Beau, and Orson.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, - Carmen and his brothers, - Gary and Bruce Hill.

There will be a short graveside interment on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden, Utah. All who are interested are invited to attend. Casual attire suitable.
