Robert Paul DeGroot

December 5, 1941 ~ July 6, 2024

After a life well lived, Robert Paul DeGroot, completed his mortal journey and passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 6, 2024, in Ogden, Utah, at the age of 82. Paul was born to loving parents Daniel Cornelius and Mary Emogene (Buswell) DeGroot in Ogden, Utah. He grew up alongside his older brother, Danny and younger sister Kay.

After graduating from Weber High School, he served a 2-year LDS Mission to the Central Atlantic States Mission on the East Coast from 1961 to 1963. Upon the successful completion of his mission, he was greeted by his sweetheart, Barbara Jean Stephens, who patiently waited for his return. They were married in the Logan Temple in August 1963 and started an amazing life together. Their family includes four children: Margene (Rick) Lewis, Annjenette (Darin) Cloud, Michael P (DiAnna) DeGroot and Matthew R (Molly) DeGroot; nine grandchildren added to their joy, Chad Cummings, Paige (Chris Peters) Lewis, Annalise (Braig) Wright, Carter DeGroot, Emmaline DeGroot, Andrew DeGroot, Davis DeGroot, Madilynn DeGroot, Cortland DeGroot; and 1 great-grandson, Kaden Cummings.

In addition to being a loving husband, father and grandfather, Paul spent his career in the honorable profession of first responder and firefighter for the Ogden City Fire Department. He served the members of the Ogden community for over 30 years until his retirement in 1998. After retirement from Ogden City, he again served the community for several years working as bus driver for Wasatch Transportation, transporting deaf and blind children to school. But his favorite job was being a dad and a grandfather. From the time his children were born, he supported them in all their various activities, playing an active role in their interests. When grandchildren started to come along, Paul was their biggest fan, front and center in the stands or audience, to cheer them on.

Paul loved camping and traveling. He and Barbara took their children on many great family vacations that will always be remembered as fun family times. He loved a good game of scrabble, completing the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper, playing solitaire on the computer and rarely missed an episode of The Price is Right on television.

Paul had a deep love of the gospel and spent his life living its principles. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a member of the Washington Terrace 3rd Ward for over 58 years. He served as a Bishop in the ward for several years - which was the hardest job he ever loved.

Paul is survived by his children, grandchildren, and a sister, Kay (Dennis) Leak. He was preceded in death by Barbara, his loving wife of 57 years; his parents; and a brother, Danny DeGroot.

Our hearts are broken that our dad/grandpa is no longer with us. We take comfort that, again, our mom patiently waited for him, and we are sure she greeted him with open arms and most likely a "honey-do" list that she has been compiling while she waited. We love you Dad, we will miss you every day and will hold you in our hearts until we meet again. Keep Smiling!

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Internment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
