Evelyn Hope Sportsman, 84, of Ogden, UT, passed away peacefully at her home on December 11, 2024. Evelyn was born on July 11, 1940, to Earl James Stephens and Merva Bailey. Evelyn lived a life filled with love, music, and devotion to her family. She attended Kearney High School, at a later age and proudly received her high school diploma. Evelyn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was known by her children as “The Greatest Mom On Earth,” her life revolved around her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was a woman of many talents and joys, including swing dancing, the beach, singing, and Hawaiian Luaus. Her beautiful singing voice was often compared to Patsy Cline. Evelyn also loved cats and camping, finding peace and happiness in nature and the simple moments of life. Evelyn is survived by her children, Michele Cecil and Robert (Patricia) Sportsman, her siblings Johnny, Nola, Marilyn, Gene “Hap” and Robin; and her extended family who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Merva; her son, John Richard Hansen; two sons who passed shortly after birth; and her siblings Merva Ruth and Jimmy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be sent to St. Jude’s, Primary Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice, in Evelyn’s honor.

On Saturday December 21, 2024, at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden UT. 84404, a closed casket family gathering will be held prior to services from 12:00pm – 1:00pm and the Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Graveside services will be held shortly after the Celebration of Life at Ben Lomond Cemetery 526 East 2850 North Ogden, UT. 84414.
