Aug 2, 2024

July 3, 1936 ~ July 30, 2024

Lela Mae Dickerson Rice, of Brigham City, Utah, died peacefully on July 30, 2024, of natural causes after a short illness. She was born in 1936 to Gordon Lee and Elsie Amelia Dickerson in Boise, Idaho. Lela shared her birthdate with her twin sister, Lola. The Dickerson family, who also included an older sister, Mary Lee, lived in Parma, Idaho, a small farming community near the Oregon border. After graduating from Parma High School, Lela attended Boise Junior College attaining her Associates Degree in Home Economics. The circumstances of her life brought her to Brigham City, Utah, 44 years ago where she opened a women’s clothing store, Mode O’Day, on Main Street. After closing the clothing store, she was employed by Utah State University working with mentally handicapped adults as a Life Skills Teacher/Coordinator. Lela enjoyed being involved in her Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the local Women’s Association. She was an avid card player, loving her Bridge and Pinochle clubs over the years. In her early years, Lela loved camping and fishing with her family and has traveled extensively across the United States.

Lela was a loving, nurturing mother to her three children and a special grandma to her numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She instilled in their lives a lifelong love of living fully and learning constantly. She reflected the love of Jesus to those around her through her kind words and caring heart. She was a member of Brigham City Bible Church. Lela had an infectious laugh earning her the nickname of “Giggles” from her friends at Maple Springs Independent Living.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Lee, her in-laws, Herold and Helen Rice, a brother-in-law Gary Rice, and son-in-law Byron Timbimboo. She is survived by her children Kristy (Dennis Baker) Timbimboo, Kelly (Donna) Rice, Kreg (Tammie) Rice, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her identical twin sister Lola (Larry) Unger, sister-in-law Lola (Al) Cain, and brother-in-law Kenneth Rice.
