Richard Vernon Pett

Richard Vernon Pett, a lifelong resident of Brigham City, UT, passed away on October 20, 2023, at the age of 87. Richard was born on December 3, 1935, in Brigham City to his loving parents Vernon Moroni and Rose Fern Jensen Pett. On September 12, 1957, Richard married the love of his life, Ina Elizabeth Gardner, and together they built a beautiful life and family. A steadfast provider, Richard worked diligently as an insurance agent in the financial planning sector until his retirement.

He was known for his love of life and family. Richard was an avid BYU fan. He was a big outdoorsman, his hobbies including hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, golfing, and chopping wood. He rebuilt the family home and enjoyed working with his hands. His love for family extended to his community as he served as a Bishop, Branch President, Stake High Councilman, Scout Master which he loved dearly. Richard went on two missions with his beloved wife at Cove Fort and at the Bishop’s Storehouse. He also served as a President of the Brigham Jaycees, President of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, and Rotary Club President. Richard’s dedication to service was emblematic of his strong, friendly, outgoing personality and his championing spirit for all. Even in retirement, Richard continued to find joy in helping others in any way he could. His sense of humor and love for telling jokes will always be remembered.

Richard honorably served his country in the United States Army as a Supply Sargent during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Ina Elizabeth Pett; children, Jeffrey and Donna Pett, Michael and Tami Pett, Susan and Quin Parkinson, Sandra and David Marble, John and Annie Pett, Shauna and Ted Parkinson, and Sharon and Scott Wadman; sisters, Karrol Valcarce, Pat Brown, and Sheri Pett. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Jerry Pett; sister, Rose Watson; brother, James Pett; and granddaughter, Ashley Pett.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the tender care given to Richard from CNS Hospice, Maple Springs, and Nurse Fyre.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 6:00pm at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, UT, and on Saturday, October 28, 2023, 9:30-10:30am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 506 South 200 West, Brigham City, Utah. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am MDT at the same location.

His legacy is his family values and his unconditional love for his family.
