Jun 27, 2023

1949 — 2023

Randy Smith, 74, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, in Ogden, Utah while he was riding his horse and the horse spooked. It is unclear what happened from there but the trauma from what occurred was too much for his body to handle. He was born April 9, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah to LaMar Ray Smith and Naoma Ruth Astill.

Randy graduated from Viewmont High School and attended the University of Utah. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Vickie Joan Peterson on October 10, 1975. They were later sealed in the Ogden Temple February 25, 1977.

He was President and CEO of Max Pro Police, owner of Yamaha of Ogden, Director of Racing for Bell Helmets, and was a sales representative for YESCO. He also managed the High Country Inn Motel, served as a police officer in the K-9 unit for the Ogden City Police Department, and was a partner owner of Cox Electronics. Randy was the ski racing coach for Park City, Snow Basin, Solitude, and Weber State University ski teams, respectively.

Randy enjoyed an intensely active lifestyle competing in ski racing, motocross racing, cycling, surfing, horse riding, and water skiing where he excelled and was the western regional water ski jump champion. He especially enjoyed doing all of this with his family and friends. He loved people and was fiercely loyal to those he came to know. This was displayed in his service at home as a husband and father as well as in all of his callings and missionary service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his wife and partner in all things, Vickie. He is also survived by his children Tracy (Roxanne) Nielsen, Joan (Dave) Pilkington, Kirsten (Blaine) Freestone, Boomer (Alison) Smith, and Tyson (Jennie) Smith: siblings Larry Smith and Dian Erickson; 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law Vicki Smith and grandson Joshua Nielsen.
