Ray Gilbert

Passed away peacefully at home May 30, 2023. Ray was born May 28, 1954, at Hill Air Force Base to Dale and Sarah Hunter Gilbert. Ray graduated from Bonneville High School, Washington Terrace, Utah in 1972.

He later married Robyn Knighton. They had two daughters, Jody Gilbert and Carrie Gilbert. Ray and Robyn later divorced but remained friends.

Ray worked for Albertsons Utah and Florida divisions 1977-2002. He then went to work for the State of Florida, Agricultural food Safety until 2017. Throughout his life one of his biggest joys was serving as a Volunteer Fire Fighter. He served with several fire departments between 1975-2012. They included Washington Terrace, South Salt Lake. South Ogden Fire Department where some of his time was served as Assistant Fire Chief. He served on the Orange County, Florida, Fire Department, reserve as a lieutenant in 1993. He then served as a Fire Fighter, Monte Verde, Florida.

Ray is survived by his daughters, Jody Gilbert and Carrie Gilbert, Groveland, Florida. Siblings; Gerald Gilbert, Layton, Utah. Fae Wells, Layton, Utah. Kay (Joe) Durrant, Willard, Utah. Bill (Sheila) Hunter, Columbus, Ohio. Also, many nephews, nieces, family members and friends who love him very much.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Sue Gilbert, niece Nichole and many other family members and friends. We are sure they are enjoying their reunion.

We will miss his famous burgers, one-of-a-kind cinnamon rolls and bear hugs.
