Samuel Salas

Dec 22, 2023

1927 — 2023

On December 18, 2023, the world lost a dedicated railroader, a humble music lover, a talented family-man, and a supportive grandpa. Yes, we’re talking about the inimitable Samuel Salas, born on July 8, 1927, in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico. Samuel was the kind of guy who made his grandkids laugh on cue. He was the man who, after 37 years of grinding rails for Union Pacific Railroad, knew every creak, groan, and sigh of the tracks. The kind of guy who just loved trains.

With a knack for turning simple car rides into grand adventures and raising his children into fine individuals, Samuel was a man of many talents. Along the way, he picked up a few notable achievements – not least of which was becoming a United States citizen – but if you asked him, he’d say his greatest achievement was his family. Survived by his sons, Rick (Vicki), Saul (Debra), Willie, Ruben (Debra-Deceased), James, Sam Jr. (Michelle), and his Daughter, Irene (Ben) Salas-Haro. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 69 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren, two brothers: Raul and Joel Salas. Samuel was a beacon of love, guidance, and the occasional dad joke. He was a man who was preceded in death by his father Silvano, mother Natalia, and wife Paula, one sister and two brothers. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter and dedication.

In honor of Samuel, a viewing will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 9:40 to 10:40am MST at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah, 84404. Following this, a celebration of life will occur at 11:00am MST. Interment will follow in the Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd.

Please join us to remember Samuel – bring your best stories, your fondest memories, and perhaps a handkerchief for the inevitable tears of laughter. Because that’s how Samuel would have wanted it – a celebration filled with joy, love, and a good dose of humor.

We encourage you to share your memories of Samuel and upload your favorite photos to his memorial page at www.myers-mortuary.com. Let’s remember him as he was – a dedicated worker, a humble man, a talented father, and a supportive grandpa. Samuel Salas, you will be missed, but your spirit will live on in every car ride, and every family gathering.
