Stephen Morgan
1940 — 2023
If there is fishing in heaven, Stephen Roger Morgan is dropping a line in a pristine lake with his dad and uncles right now. Steve died peacefully at his North Ogden, Utah home on Friday, April 21, 2023. He was 83.
Steve was born April 10, 1940, at the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital in Ogden, Weber County, Utah to Donna Hannah Kelson and Floyd Raymond Morgan. He was the second of their six children. Steve was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Melchizedek Priesthood.
Many of Steve’s greatest memories were made around a campfire. He craved Nature and spent as much of his youth as possible in the mountains and on the lakes surrounding Utah. Hunting, fishing, and breathing in fresh mountain air seemed to sustain him.
Steve attended Ben Lomond High School in Ogden. He joined the Marine Corps Reserves in 1958. He served in the 4th 155mm Howitzer Battery where he underwent extensive training in gunnery and tactics to support ground forces. His unit was under the command of the 12th Marine Corps Force Troops, Fleet Marine Force Pacific. He was deployed to locations throughout the Pacific region.
He served our country for three years and was honorably discharged in 1964 to marry his sweetheart, Sherry Dean Satterlee. Steve and Sherry became the parents of three boys who inherited his love of the great outdoors. The family took many adventures in trucks loaded with motorcycles and camping gear. Steve and Sherry were later divorced.
Steve found his professional home with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for 36 years. He finished his government career as an investigator with the Federal Security Service. After retirement, he launched an entirely new career in construction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kay Dawn Morgan Messerly, and his granddaughter Ashlee Brooke Morgan.
Steve leaves behind three children, Stephen G. Morgan (Patricia, “Trish”), John D. Morgan (Brandee), and Robert B. Morgan. He also leaves behind four siblings: Patricia J. (James V.) Spiers, Michael G. Morgan, Sally Lutz, and F. Dennis Morgan (Karan), three grandchildren, and too many life-long friends to count.
A viewing will take place at Myers Mortuary, 845 S Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT 84404, on Friday, April 28, 6-8 p.m. A second viewing will take place on Saturday, April 29, 10-10:40 a.m. with a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 8th Ward Chapel, 1150 E 2600 N, North Ogden, UT 84414.
