Gary Eugene Stokes
April 7, 1936 ~ February 14, 2017
Gary Eugene Stokes of Ogden, Utah, was born on April 7, 1936, in Cleveland, Utah, son of James Alfred and Zella Alger Stokes. Gary lost his battle with life on February 14, 2017.
Gary married his eternal sweetheart, Raeona Mae Maughan, on December 1, 1955, in the Manti LDS Temple. Together, they enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
Gary received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Utah State University. He was an educator and coach for 29 years with the Weber County School District. During summers, he worked at the Utah State Grain Inspection. After retiring from teaching, he worked 10 years at Western Zirconium.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served in many callings including High Priest Group Leader and Executive Secretary.
Gary loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed watching them play sports. Coaching was one of his greatest passions. He elevated many boys into respectable young men. Full of passion, Gary loved life deeply. He enjoyed returning to Emery County to hunt, camp and fish.
Surviving are his wife, Raeona; and their children: Michael (Shirley) Stokes, Scott (Ruth) Stokes, Todd (Kim) Stokes, John (Lori) Stokes, Candace (Jared) Hartmann; 23 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Garth (Donna) Stokes of Salt Lake, and Ray Stokes of Price; and sister, Reva (Ross) Gordon of Huntington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Corrine and Helen; brothers: James and Donald; and granddaughter, Hailey.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Ben Lomond 10th Ward, 3350 N. 1050 E., North Ogden, Utah. Family will be receiving friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Ben Lomond Cemetery.
