With the state girls golf championships set for the Top of Utah next week, there's plenty of excitement as local schools jockey for spots in the finals.
The Region 1 championships were staged on Tuesday afternoon at Eagle Mountain Golf Course, and the Davis Darts parlayed their depth to pick up the team victory over the 18-hole tournament.
With Jessica Sloot and Laura Gerner leading the way, Davis tallied 322 points using the modified stableford system for a 21-point win over Weber. Layton was third, with Northridge edging Fremont and Syracuse for fourth place.
Sloot tallied 90 points in the regular-season finale, a point better than Gerner. Weber's Haylee Chugg was third with 84, followed by Northridge's Mei Brennan (78), Weber's Bayleigh Woodland (77), Weber's McKenna Adams (75), and Davis' Christine Sithivong (73). Layton's Bailie Sacket and Melissa Moore tied for eighth, while Davis' Ashley Hale and Brynne McCousland tied for 10th.
The top three teams finished in the same order for the season-long standings, with Fremont fourth, Northridge fifth and Syracuse sixth.
Individually, Gerner edged Sloot by a half point for the season medalist honors, whith Woodland third, Chugg fourth and Brennan fifth.
