WASHINGTON TERRACE -- The Lakers are clicking along as the state soccer playoffs draw near.

Bonneville High's boys soccer squad notched a solid 5-1 victory over Box Elder on Friday afternoon at home, claiming its third straight Region 5 win and 5 of 6 overall.

"It was a nice win. We had a good team effort on defense and the offense is starting to click," Bonneville coach Mike Hickman said.

Still, Bonneville came out a little flat, and Box Elder made the Lakers pay.

The Bees scored on an Eduardo Macias goal. But Bonneville answered with goals from Landon Summers, Sorie Morah and Nate Sheffield.

Chandler Baddley closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the second half.

Tanner Scheffler had two assists for the Lakers (6-3-0 Region 5, 8-5-0 overall).

* MOUNTAIN CREST 2, ROY 0: At Hyrum, the Mustangs handed Roy its first league loss in a physical battle that dropped the Royals into a tie for first place with Logan.

Mountain Crest scored twice after a scoreless first half on goals from Elijah Domery and Trevor Steinmetz and held on.

Jesse Montufar recorded the shutout in the win.

* LOGAN 1, SKY VIEW 0 (2OT): At Smithfield, the Grizzlies won another nail-biter on the road.

Logan and Roy each have 19 points in the standings. The Grizzlies have game left next week, while the Royals play Box Elder and Sky View.

The top four teams advance to the state 4-A playoff tournament.

* BOUNTIFUL 3, CLEARFIELD 1: At Bountiful, the Braves bullied the Falcons in a hard-fought league battle.

Carson Tinker scored twice for Bountiful.

The Falcons will look for their first league win next Tuesday in their season finale versus Cyprus at home.

In another league game, Woods Cross fell to Highland by a 3-2 score.
