EDEN -- The wind didn't deter the champions.
The St. Joseph girls and Layton Christian boys repeated as Region 17 golf champions on Tuesday, fighting the conditions to post convincing victories at Wolf Creek Resort.
"We had blustery, windy conditions, but the top teams came through," St. Joseph coach Lou Eddy said. "Layton Christian has four solid golfers and really played pretty well.
"On the girls, side, St. Joseph has been unbeaten and Greta Schneider led the way."
In the girls tourney, St. Joseph posted a 166 score using the modified stableford scoring system, with Layton Christian next at 115, followed by West Ridge Academy.
Schneiter shot a 95, good enough for 69 points. She was followed by teammate Mady White (54) and LCA's Kayla Kingsley (40) and Marissa Long (32). St. Joseph's Kristen Carney (25) rounded out the top five.
In the boys chase, LCA tallied a 333 stroke total, followed by St. Joseph (389), ICS (498) and Concordia (538).
