Father charged with child abuse in motorcycle crash that killed son

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Taylorsville man has been charged with child abuse homicide in the death of his 22-month-old son in a motorcycle crash.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports 48-year-old Shannon Moore also was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with unlawful motorcycle riding, driving on a suspended or revoked license and having a minor not wear protective headgear while on a motorcycle.

Moore is accused of riding outside his apartment with his son on his lap in August, despite being warned several times before that it was dangerous.

As he was driving through the parking lot, police say, he tried to turn a corner while going about 41 to 47 mph, but lost control and crashed.

The boy died at the scene.

The father and son were not wearing helmets.
