BOUNTIFUL -- A 42-year-old Bountiful man is charged with sexually abusing a child over a two-year period.

Michael Lon Gailey was arrested by police Friday and booked in Davis County Jail. He has since been released on $20,000 bail.

The charges were filed in 2nd District Court on Sept. 20. According to the court's website, Gailey has a court hearing set for Wednesday.

Bountiful Assistant Police Chief Ed Biehler said Saratoga Springs police notified Bountiful about allegations made concerning Gailey.

Bountiful police interviewed the child at the Davis County Children's Justice Center and then filed six counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies. According to court documents, each of the first-degree felonies carries a mandatory prison sentence of 15 years to life upon conviction.

The abuse took place from May 6, 2008, through June 30, 2010, and Gailey held a position of trust with the child, according to the court documents.
