Layton man faces criminal charges over insurance

FARMINGTON — Layton resident Stewart Ian Rodgers faces criminal charges filed in 2nd District Court by the Utah Insurance Department’s Fraud Division.

Rodgers operated the SIR Insurance Group Online from his home, according to a spokesman for the fraud division.

In a news release, the division said it received a complaint from a Salt Lake City car dealership with concerns that their insurance policy with Rodgers appeared to be nonexistent, even though they had been paying premiums.

The department said two other car dealership owners have discovered that they also have been paying for coverage that does not exist.

The fraud division alleges that Rodgers pocketed premiums for personal use.

The Insurance Fraud Division is asking anyone who has purchased a policy through Stewart Ian Rodgers or SIR Insurance Group Online between January 2011 and September 2012 to verify that a policy does exist.

Anyone with information that could help with this investigation is asked to contact Deputy Director Shane Tiernan at 801-531-5398 or by email to stiernan@utah.gov.
