Ex-church employee pleads guilty to sex abuse of child

FARMINGTON — A former employee of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses involving two children.

Court records show Timothy Bothell, 43, accepted charges of attempted aggravated sexual abuse and lewdness involving a child.

The Centerville man took a plea deal Tuesday in 2nd District Court.

Court records accused Bothell of exposing his genitals to a pair of girls, 11 and 13 years old, and fondling one of them last year.

Police say girls were family friends.

Bothell will return to 2nd District Court for sentencing Jan. 29.

Bothell was terminated by the church missionary department when charges were filed in August and was relieved of another position as a local priesthood leader.
