McAdams wins Salt Lake County mayor’s race

SALT LAKE CITY — Democrat Ben McAdams has defeated Republican Mark Crockett in the race for Salt Lake County mayor.

McAdams credits his record as a fiscal conservative and support among moderate Republicans and independents for his victory Tuesday.

Unofficial results show he garnered nearly 55 percent of the vote to Crockett’s 45 percent.

The 37-year-old McAdams, a state senator, replaces Democrat Peter Caroon as mayor of the mostly Democratic county.

He’s a Mormon Democrat who earned a reputation for being able to work with legislators on both sides of the aisle during his tenure as a state senator.
