No surprise: Romney wins bid in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Mitt Romney has handily won his bid for presidency in Utah’s general election.

Romney, a Mormon and graduate of Brigham Young University who oversaw the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, is a hugely popular figure in Utah, where more than 60 percent of residents are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was the overwhelming favorite to claim Utah’s six electoral votes Tuesday in his race against President Barack Obama, despite missing out on an endorsement from the state’s largest newspaper. The Salt Lake Tribune wrote that Romney has flip-flopped too many times, using the headline, "Too Many Mitts."

The former Massachusetts governor took 90 percent of the vote in Utah’s 2008 presidential primary and received 93 percent in this year’s primary.
