OGDEN - The Weber State University women's volleyball team went the distance on Saturday night, capturing a nail-biting thriller against Montana.
Rallying from a 2-1 deficit, the Wildcats snagged their 10th win of the season by defeating the Grizzlies 25-17, 19-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13 in Big Sky Conference action at Swenson Gym.
"We've been getting more competitive the last couple of weeks; we've been very close, and tonight we were able to put it together," Weber State coach Tom Peterson said. "We got a lot of players some playing time in the match tonight and we had key contributions from everyone."
Redshirt freshman outside hitter Rebecca Fuchs had 15 kills and 12 digs for her second double-double of the week, and seventh of the season overall. Fuchs also added four blocks and two services aces for Weber State.
Senior middle blocker Dama Cox had a season-high 15 kills, while recording three blocks, and junior middle blocker Briana Wilms had 11 kills, four blocks and a pair of service aces.
Redshirt freshman middle blocker Audrey Gee tied her career high with nine blocks, while senior libero Laurel Bodily had 13 digs and three service aces - including back-to-back aces for the final two points of the match.
Senior setter Caitlin Penrod had 47 assists, 13 digs, four blocks and four kills - including the winning point in the fourth set.
Weber State finished with 60 kills, which is its third-highest kill total of the season, and 15 team blocks.
The Wildcats came out flying and captured the first set, but the Grizzlies rallied to level the match at 1-1 and then broke open a tight set late in the third to take the 2-1 lead.
The fourth set featured 10 ties and five lead changes until the Wildcats edged ahead and Penrod ended the set and leveled the match with a kill.
The fifth set was razor close with nine ties and four lead chances. Montana led 13-12, but Weber State tied it up on a Grizzlies' attack error.
Bodily's first ace put the Wildcats in front 14-13 and forced the Grizzlies to take a timeout.
After retaking the court, Bodily served up another ace and the Wildcats captured the set and the win.
Weber State will return to action on Wednesday against Idaho State, and then wrap up its home season on Saturday against Sacramento State.
