Sizzler hosts fundraiser for Children's Justice Center

OGDEN — Waitresses assisted by uniformed Ogden police officers made the rounds at the Sizzler Steakhouse in downtown Ogden on Wednesday night.

No arrests were reported. Instead, the officers were helping wait tables as a fundraiser, all tips going to the Children’s Justice Center.

OPD Lt. Chad Ledford, who organized the event along with Sizzler marketing liaison Sarah Carver, said as much as $2,000 is raised each October by the informal fundraiser, now in its sixth year. Up to 10 officers at a time were waiting on tables from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“We’ve had a $100 tip already,” Ledford said at 6:30 p.m. “People are being generous. And we’ve only had one glass of water spilled on a customer. We’re policemen. We don’t have waiting skills.”

Ogden Police Chief Mike Ashment and his two assistant chiefs, Wayne Tarwater and Eric Young, were expected to join in, he said, not as waiters, but as diners leaving excessive tips.
