Man pleads guilty in DUI crash that killed Cottonwood High coach

SANDY — A Sandy man has pleaded guilty to automobile homicide in the June death of a Cottonwood High School assistant football coach.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports 24-year-old Blake Timothy Molder entered the plea this week in a deal that releases him from misdemeanor speeding and traffic charges. He faces up to 15 years in prison at sentencing Dec. 3.

Authorities say Molder drove his SUV into the back of Michael Gallegos’ car at 95 mph while Gallegos was stopped at a South Jordan stoplight.

The 39-year-old father of two died at the scene of the early-morning accident June 23.

A police report says Molder told authorities he had several drinks at a bar that evening and smoked marijuana earlier in the day.
