Crews working to contain Tooele County fire

TOOELE  — Fire crews are battling a wildfire burning in a rugged area of Tooele County that broke out Monday morning.

Fire information officer Cami Lee says the Butte Fire has charred more than 1.5 square miles near Dugway Proving Grounds and is burning in a remote area that fire engines are having difficulty reaching.

Meanwhile, the West Lake Fire burning on West Mountain is near containment.

Lee told The Salt Lake Tribune that authorities are investigating that blaze, which firefighters suspect was started by target shooters.

Most of that fire is burning in an area where state officials restricted target shooting until the end of October.

No structures are threatened and no injuries were reported with either fire.
