Woman saved from burning car in SLC cited for DUI

SALT LAKE CITY — Police say a woman whose car crashed hundreds of feet down a hill in Salt Lake City and burst into flames last week has been cited for driving under the influence.

Salt Lake Police Sgt. Shawn Josephson tells the Deseret News the 33-year-old woman is still in the hospital and they won’t release her name until she’s booked in jail.

Authorities say the woman came to a scenic overlook near Capitol Hill Friday morning, but ended up plummeting down a steep embankment.

Construction workers on a job nearby used hammers to pry open the door and pull her from the vehicle.

Officials say she was conscious but had a seatbelt burn and singed hair.

Crews were quickly able to extinguish the small field fire the crash started.
