Driver hits police cars, jailed for DUI

OGDEN — A man was arrested for DUI early Sunday morning after he hit two police cars, injuring an Ogden officer.

Richard Fernandez, 24, police say, drove his 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse, toward officers, pushing them out of the way. He then hit a parked police car and drove head-on into another car driven by an Ogden officer, causing him minor injuries.

Police say the incident occurred at 4:30 a.m. Sunday in a cordoned-off area on the 900 block of Patterson Avenue just east of Quincy Avenue.

Officers were investigating another incident, states a news release from Ogden Police. The release states that Fernandez accelerated when he entered the area police had blocked with their vehicles, which had their overhead lights on at the time.

The injured officer was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital on Sunday where he was treated and released.

All three vehicles involved sustained substantial damage, police said.

Fernandez was not injured but was booked into Weber County Jail.
