Recreationists missing in Box Elder, Weber found safe

A pair of missing outdoor enthusiasts were found safe following two unrelated searches over the weekend.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office was notified about 11:30 p.m. Sunday that a snowmobiler was missing near Causey Estates in the Ogden Valley, said Lt. Mark Lowther.

Weber County Search and Rescue personnel found the man, uninjured, about 2 a.m. Monday. He was stuck in the snow about a half-mile from where he had departed.

The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call Friday night from the wife of Bob Brown, who lives in the Salt Lake City area, reporting her husband had been camping near Crystal Springs, said Chief Deputy Kevin Potter.

The woman reported that Brown was overdue to arrive in Wendover, Nev. Nineteen Box Elder Search and Rescue personnel along with Sheriff J. Lynn Yeates spent about 8 1/2 hours Saturday searching the county’s west desert for Brown’s pickup, but didn’t find the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office was notified Sunday afternoon by Brown’s family that a man had encountered him near Lucin in western Box Elder County and that he was safe, Potter said.
